Swift, a JBS company, is extending the supply of clean, renewable energy to its own stores in the State of São Paulo. In a partnership with Âmbar Energia, a company of the J&F Investimentos group, 11 business premises across the state of São Paulo will be supplied by the recently inaugurated Âmbar Porto Feliz Photovoltaic Power Station (PPS). The investment is part of Swift’s strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The Âmbar Porto Feliz PPS consists of 2,352 solar panels with an installed capacity of 1,29 MWp (peak Megawatts), enough to supply 800 homes. The project will prevent the monthly issuance of 56,4 tons of carbon dioxide gas into the atmosphere, the equivalent of planting 81 new trees every month. It will also see Swift reduce its scope 2 emissions referring to electricity consumption.
“This is yet another step by Swift on the path to sustainability and to reducing the carbon footprint of our operations. Concerned about the environment, Swift has been increasingly used clean and renewable solar energy in its own stores and mobile units (vans) since 2019”, points out the CFO and person in charge of the Swift Sustainability Programs, Raphael Jacob.
Swift’s strategy for prioritizing the consumption of renewable energy in its operations is aligned with the efforts of JBS to become Net Zero by 2040, in other words, to zero the net balance of its emissions and offset residual emissions. Swift’s target is to achieve 100% of its stores running on the renewable source by 2025.
Expansion of renewable energy consumption
Thanks to the power from the Âmbar Porto Feliz PPS, the number of Swift stores supplied by solar farms now stands at 45. As part of this movement, Swift is also installing photovoltaic panels on the roofs of its stores, generating energy for consumption within the premises. These projects are developed, implemented and managed by Âmbar Energia, the energy solutions company of the J&F Group.
In addition to the solar farms and roof projects, the company is also operating 100% of its mobile stores on solar panels that provide energy to power the point-of-sale systems.
