JBS Green Offices regularize 8,000 farms and increase service to rural producers by 57%

JBS Green Offices program has achieved the milestone of 8,000 socio-environmental regularizations of farms in Brazil. In 2023 alone, the initiative accounted for a total of 4,000 farm regularizations and reached the milestone of 2,300 hectares designated for reforestation. For this year, the company’s goal is to reach 12,000 regularizations and prioritize service to small producers.

Of the 8,000 regularizations carried out, 47% are from small properties. Aiming to support small producers beyond solving environmental liabilities, at the end of last year JBS launched Green Offices 2.0.

“Technology increases productivity, income, and makes production more sustainable,” says Liège Correia, Director of Sustainability at JBS Brazil. “With Green Offices 2.0, we will offer tools for producers to access practices and techniques of regenerative production and integrated agroforestry systems,” she adds.

According to the executive, the Company adopted a strategy to tackle the problem of deforestation that goes beyond blocking producers who are not in compliance with the company’s purchasing policy. “We understand that this sectoral issue related to deforestation will only be solved if we act jointly with ranchers and small producers, offering effective solutions and promoting technical assistance for those who wish to regularize. And the results we are achieving with the Green Offices prove that this is a correct strategy,” she states.

The executive explains that, in about three years of the Green Offices’ existence, more than 22,000 services to rural producers have been carried out, with 9,000 occurring in 2023 alone, representing a growth of 57% compared to the previous year.

Currently, JBS daily monitors more than 70,000 potential cattle supplying farms. When a property is identified with any type of non-compliance with the socio-environmental criteria of JBS’s Responsible Purchasing Policy, there is an immediate block in the company’s purchasing system. At this moment, the work of the Green Offices provides support to understand and assist those producers who want to embark on the path of sustainability towards the regularization of their areas.

The program began with offices in the states of Pará, Rondônia, Goiás, Mato Grosso, and Mato Grosso do Sul. With the initiative’s maturity and increasing demand from producers, the program expanded to include Acre and Tocantins.
