JBS Fund receives an injection of over R$ 1,5 million to invest in the Amazon Biome

Aviagen Latin America is the most recent partner of the JBS Fund for the Amazon. Over three years, the company, which operates in the poultry genetics industry, will donate over R$ 1,5 million to the development of projects that are part of the JBS Fund for the Amazon.
The donation will be allocated in three equal annual installments. “We are happy to contribute to such an important variety of projects for the Amazon.One of them will support the sustainable growth or communities and business within the biome, putting forest conservancy first”, contends Ivan Pupo Lauandos, president of Aviagen Amércia Latina. “In addition, Aviagen has always adopted a balanced and responsible approach regarding poultry farming, with a strong emphasis on animal well-being and sustainability”, he added.
For Joanita Maestri Karoleski, president of the JBS Fund for the Amazon, it is fundamental that the private sector participate more enabling the expansion of the bioeconomy and socioeconomic inclusion in the Amazon region. “Our projects enjoy unparalleled diversity. We are in a position to transform various value chains operating in the forest on to the path to sustainable development and we are working so that more companies join us”, Joanita states.
At present, the JBS Fund for the Amazon is supporting six projects in the Amazon Biome, including actions for crops-livestock-forestry integration (ILP), a community economic inclusion program using the açai production chain do açaí, a sustainable fishing project within the pirarucu chain, investment in an accelerator for startups with projects in the Amazon, a credit program for small farmers in the chestnut, açaí, fish, wood, oils and resins value chains, and investment in R&D in a partnership with Embrapa (the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation). JBS, the world’s second-largest food company, set up the JBS Fund for the Amazon in 2020 promote the preservation of the forest and the sustainable development of the region, in addition to boosting incomes and quality of life of the communities inhabiting the biome.
The Fund, which is open to contributions and partnerships with associations from the private sector, the third sector and multistakeholder groups, will receive an cash injection of R$ 250 million from JBS over the first five years. The Company has also agreed to match its contributions to each third-party donation until the Fund reaches R$ 500 million. The target is for the resources of the JBS Fund for the Amazon to reach a total of R$ 1 billion by 2030.
