To meet the growing demand for lamb protein in Australia and neighboring countries, JBS – the world’s largest food company – invested $20 million in modernizing its industrial unit located in the city of Cobram, in the state of Victoria.
With the investment, the Cobram plant now operates five days a week with the capacity to process up to four thousand heads per day. With investment in the latest processing and safety technologies, the refurbishment of the Cobram unit was planned to meet sustainability goals, such as reducing CO2, water conservation and energy conservation.
According to Chief Operating Officer of JBS Southern, Sam McConnell, the current market conditions and growing demand for lamb products were the key factors for investment in this facility. “JBS Australia is proud to invest again in Cobram and will partner with local businesses and communities to ensure the supply chain is supplied,” he emphasized.
Brent Eastwood, CEO of JBS Australia, stressed that the company is very excited about the opportunities generated by the reopening. “Our customers, both in Australia and in other countries in the region, are demanding high-quality lamb products. The reopening of Cobram is a priority to meet this demand and explore growth opportunities abroad,” the executive said.
