Good Deeds Do Good
Since the onset of the pandemic last year, the JBS program has channeled R$ 400 million to tackling Covid-19 in Brazil, on three different fronts: healthcare, social assistance and science. The Good Deeds Do Good program has already enabled the construction of two permanent hospitals as well as delivering 88 ambulances, 561 respirators, 1,612 multi-parameter monitors, 19,5 million PPE kits, 2,022 clinic and ICU beds, 1,4 million liters of hygiene and cleaning products and 575 food baskets. Also, 15 healthcare units have been refurbished and extended, in addition to support for 39 scientific and technological research initiatives into Covid-19. Over two million people have been assisted by the NGOs comprising the program.
Moreover, JBS has contributed R$ 5 million to the construction of a new vaccine plant at the Butantan Institute in São Paulo, and donated 400 cylinders of oxygen to tackle the public health crisis that affected Manaus in early 2021.
In August 2020, the Good Deeds Do Good program donated to the tele-medicine project that has provided medical services to riverine 25 communities on the Tapajós-Arapiuns Extractivist Reservation (Resex), in Santarém-PA. With the donation of broadband internet infrastructure and laptop computers to the basic healthcare units(UBS) of São Pedro and Parauá, the local population now has access to medical services without having to travel to the more far-flung regions of the reservation. Around 4,500 inhabitants of the communities at São Pedro and Parauá and neighboring communities have access to the services.
