XP Inc., the leading financial services platform in Brazil, is announcing the donation of R$ 500,000 to one of the first six projects supported by the JBS Fund for the Amazon, dedicated to financing initiatives aimed at the sustainable development of Amazon Biome, fostering the conservation and sustainable use of the forest, better quality of life for the local population and development through the use of technology and applied science. Abiding by the commitment announced when the Fund was created in September of last year, JBS will match contributions received from partners like XP Inc., until the figure of R$ 500 million is reached. The objective of the Fund is that by 2030 the resources will top R$ 1 billion.

“The resources from XP Inc. will be essential for leveraging the initiatives we are supporting”, contends Joanita Maestri Karoleski, president of the JBS Fund for the Amazon. “The arrival of a company as significant as XP is further proof that the JBS Fund for the Amazon can and must become one of the main drivers of the sustainable development of the Amazon.”

XP Inc. will support the project for Freeing Up Credit for the Forest Bioeconomy created and implemented by Conexsus, with the aim of encouraging forest production chains – sweet chestnut, açaí, fish, wood, oils and resins – by facilitating access to Rural Credit. The initiative includes hiring and training of local activators to unlock at least 2,500 credit agreements under the National Program for Strengthening Family Farming (PRONAF). The project will also develop a business model for 15 cooperatives that will provide periodic management advisory to the ultimate beneficiaries of project. This will result in the creation of a social business for support in accessing Pronaf credit, with guidance on production to foster the bioeconomy chains. Higher productivity and incomes serve as encouragement for preventing deforestation.

“Since our executive board was set up one year ago, we have advanced by leaps and bounds with an agenda of actions that encompass the three pillars of the English acronym: environment, social and governance. This agenda includes internal initiatives focused on XP itself, raising awareness of the issue with our network of independent offices, in addition to offering countless investment products with a socioenvironmental footprint. Supporting the JBS Fund for the Amazon is one of this series of initiatives and gives us great satisfaction because it involves the biome that is the symbol of Brazil whose preservation is urgent”, Marta Pinheiro, ESG director of XP Inc. points out.

In early June, the JBS Fund for the Amazon announced the first six projects chosen to receive support and financing. They are all engaged in actions to preserve and conserve the forest while improving the quality of life of the local communities, as well as the region’s scientific and technological development. Together, they will receive R$ 50 million from the Fund. For further details about the JBS Fund for the Amazon and the first projects supported, see: https://www.pecuariatransparente.org.br/
