Genu-in Life Skin had its functional claim approved by the agency, a rare endorsement in the market. A scientific study demonstrated that the product improves skin elasticity and firmness by 12.2%.
Genu-in® Life Skin collagen, developed by Genu-in, a JBS company, has just had its efficacy officially recognized by Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa). The agency approved the product’s functional claim, allowing the label to communicate the proven benefit: “collagen oligopeptides may help improve skin elasticity and firmness.”
This recognition places Genu-in® Life Skin on IN28, Anvisa’s so-called “positive list,” which includes ingredients with scientifically proven efficacy, safety, and quality. Few companies in the functional nutrition and beauty sector achieve this endorsement.
The approval, completed in just nine months and without additional requirements, was based on a robust technical dossier, including clinical and toxicological studies conducted by Genu-in. “The scientific validation proves that the ingredient works from the inside out, delivering visible and measurable benefits—exactly what modern consumers seek when investing in high-quality self-care,” explains Vivian Zague, JBS Research, Health and Nutrition Director.
The collagen was also evaluated in a clinical study conducted by Brazilian researchers and published in the Journal of Medicinal Food. The study, carried out with 85 women aged 45 to 60, followed the gold standard of science—a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled design. After eight weeks of supplementation, Genu-in® Life Skin showed an average improvement of 9.7% in skin firmness and 6.8% in elasticity. After twelve weeks, the increase in elasticity reached 12.2%.
Produced at Genu-in’s 4.0 factory in Presidente Epitácio (São Paulo state), one of the most modern facilities in the sector and built with an investment of R$400 million, the ingredient is the result of a circular economy model. Production uses cattle hide from JBS’s supply chain to generate high value-added ingredients such as collagen and gelatin. The result is a product with guaranteed quality and reduced environmental impact.
“This achievement shows that it is possible to combine science, technology, and sustainability to deliver real results. It is an important step in consolidating Genu-in as a global reference in science and beauty,” says Ricardo Gelain, Executive Director of Genu-in.
