Known for its commitment to employee and community welfare, Pilgrim’s Pride has taken another significant step in its journey of social impact and sustainability. On May 28, the Company officially inaugurated a new housing complex and childcare center in Moorefield, West Virginia, providing innovative solutions to support its employees and contribute to regional development.
Attendees and local representatives had the opportunity to explore the $14.8 million complex located at Eagle View Court in Moorefield.
The event welcomed regional leaders, including John Reisenweber, USDA Rural Development State Director, representatives from the West Virginia government, and county commissioners from the region, who gained insight into the unique project and its impact on the local community.
“This project is possible thanks to the Pilgrim’s Hometown Strong initiative, which is part of Pilgrim’s and JBS USA’s larger effort to invest in meaningful projects that strengthen the communities where the company operates, creating a lasting impact in these regions,” said Allen Collins, Pilgrim’s Complex Manager.
Affordable housing and childcare solutions
Situated within a short walking distance of the local poultry facility, the complex features over 160 residential units with affordable rates guaranteed not to increase for 15 years. Current 200 Pilgrim’s employees residing throughout the region will be offered first access to the new housing units. This initiative addresses urgent housing needs in the area, supporting economic growth and community stability.
The childcare center offers an additional convenient solution for families, emphasizing Pilgrim’s continued leadership in providing childcare options for its team members.
“These apartments and the childcare facility will provide quality, safe, affordable options for our team members, and we are proud to see this important project come to fruition. People working at our facility live in Pendleton, Grant, Hampshire and other surrounding counties – not just Hardy County. Our team members now have the option
to live closer and enjoy being part of the Moorefield community,” Collins added.
Community commitment recognized
Hardy County Commissioner Dave Workman praised Pilgrim’s consistent positive impact on the community.
“We certainly recognize and appreciate full well Pilgrim’s contribution to the local economy, families and community. We compliment them on the outstanding job they’ve done for years,” Workman said.
As the largest employer in Hardy County, Pilgrim’s reinforces its dedication to community welfare. The complex, which will soon feature an onsite convenience store, symbolizes Pilgrim’s ongoing investment in the community and its team members.
This project builds on the previous $860,000 Hometown Strong investment into Moorefield, which resulted in the expansion of a daycare facility, town park, new indoor recreation center, and CPR training center. Nationally, Pilgrim’s continues to lead in providing affordable housing and childcare solutions in the communities where it
operates.
